Measuring Your Share of AI Voice: Tracking Brand Visibility in ChatGPT and Gemini
Marketers have spent two decades tracking keyword rankings. Now a parallel metric matters just as much: how often AI assistants mention your brand when someone asks a question in your category. Most businesses have no idea what that number looks like for them.
Start with a real query set
Build a list of the actual questions your buyers ask, comparison questions, recommendation questions, problem-solving questions, and run them consistently across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Track whether you're mentioned, how you're described, and who you're mentioned alongside.
- Log mentions, omissions, and misrepresentations for each query
- Note which competitors get cited instead, and why their content likely earned it
- Re-run the same query set on a fixed schedule to catch trend shifts
What moves the needle once you have a baseline
Once you know where you're missing, the fix usually traces back to the same fundamentals: clearer content, stronger entity signals, and more of the third-party validation models trust. Share of AI voice isn't a separate discipline from good marketing, it's a new scoreboard for it.
If you can't say what percentage of relevant AI answers mention your brand, you're managing a channel you can't see.
